The story of the Happy Gate

We had long planned to visit Vietnam but were unsure where to leave Ruby, so we hesitated until this year when we finally decided to go. However, even then, we were uncertain about where to leave her. Then, one day, our kind neighbours offered to take care of Ruby for us. They insisted that we not let this matter hinder us from visiting our family, for which we are truly grateful.

While we enjoyed our time in Vietnam, our neighbours faced challenges as Ruby persistently tried to return home. On the first night, she refused to sleep and kept howling. In the following days, she continually attempted to escape.

The climax occurred during playtime in the garden when Ruby used her strength to bite through the iron fence to reach our backyard. That night, she refused to return, instead opting to sleep by our back door in the freezing weather. She only returned to our neighbour’s house the next morning after realizing the house was empty.

From that moment on, she learned to accept, bond with, and love our neighbours.

When we came to pick her up, she was naturally overjoyed.

One surprising thing was that after being picked up, her eyes were filled with sadness as if she didn’t understand what had happened to our neighbours. Where were they? Then she pressed the dog bell to go outside. We followed and saw her sneakily crawl to the gate she had bitten through, to the other side. Our neighbours left her to come in and play. It turns out she missed our neighbours, who had cared for her immensely while her family was away.

Since then, the hole between the two gardens has been affectionately called the Happy Gate, where Ruby can freely visit our neighbours, be pampered, and receive treats. Ruby seems to have gained another beloved family member and a second family.

Every time I look at Ruby, I see a great love within her.
